About the Round table conducted in the frames of the European Seafood Exposition 2009

The Association of Fish Processing and Trading Companies’ directorship conducted the Round table, dedicated to the issues of fish and seafood products’ import to the Russian Federation on the 29^th of April. The Round table was arranged in the frames of the European Seafood Exposition 2009 in Brussels.

The representatives of the Russian State Veterinary Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) participated in this event at the invitation of the Association.

The Association, Rosselkhoznadzor and Central scientific-methodic veterinary laboratory representatives’ made presentations during the Round table, which let the participants find out more about the Russian fishery market and the procedure of the foreign fish and seafood production supplies to the national market.

More than 100 world leading importers, exporters and fish and seafood products’ producers attended the Round table, as well as Ministries and departments’ representatives from different countries: Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia; Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark; United States Department of Agriculture; Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs; Trade Commissioner Service of Canada; Department of Commerce of the USA; Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Communities; Canadian Embassy in Belgium; the USA Embassy in the Russian Federation and Royal Norwegian Embassy in the Russian Federation; representative from Faroese Governmental Agency for Food and Veterinary Inspection and representative from Faroese salmon producers.

The Round table gave its participants a great chance to discuss current problems, which the Association pays much attention to in its work. Among these points are: fish and seafood products supplies procedure, the Russian state authorities’ enforcements to the fishery products’ quality, the consumption level and preferences of the Russian people in this sphere and other relevant problems.
